Cosy warmth, contentment, joy and a sense of security – these are feelings that arise in us when we taste again our favourite childhood foods. The FOOBY team has dug out its favourite recipes and reminisces fondly about dishes from the past. Which foods hold happy memories for you?
My favourite meal was spag bol. Preferably with lots of cheese and lots of sauce. As a child, I was always up for spaghetti and even now, I still love it: I can only go so long without it before I get a craving!
One of my favourite dishes were ‘Dampfnudel’, a sweet roll. Sadly, we didn't have them every week at home, which made them all the more special. The smell still takes me right back to my childhood!
Even as a child, Cinque Pi was my absolute favourite food. I liked it as farfalle, for instance, topped with melted cheese. It brings back childhood memories whenever I eat it. And I always have a big plateful.
I discovered my passion for baking and for sweet things at an early age. Marble cake was, and still is, a particular favourite, as it combines the best of both worlds: chocolate and vanilla!
“Say cheese” – photos weren't the only thing that raised a grin when I was a child. I couldn't get enough of cheese tarts, and I still can't! Waiting for them to cool a little was a real test of patience.
When, as a child, I was allowed to choose what I wanted for lunch, I didn't have to think for long: chicken nuggets with ketchup were my absolute favourite, and they still are today!
French toast has always been a go-to for me. It was my absolute favourite from a very young age. All you need is bread, eggs, milk and cinnamon sugar to make the perfect breakfast, the best brunch, or the most comforting supper.
