Kids of all ages can help to plant herbs
Herbs are an essential ingredient in cooking. Not just because they enhance the flavour of a dish, but also because they look stunning as a garnish. Every year in the spring and summer, we plant our own herb garden – but even if you don't have a garden or balcony, you can still grow a wide range of herbs in little pots on the window sill. Planting a herb garden with kids is a lot of fun and also teaches them to be responsible for their plants. Here are some helpful tips for turning your herb garden into a team effort.
To plant a herb garden, you don't need a garden or balcony with huge pots. You can simply plant the herb seeds in jam jars, old tins or grandma's coffee cup. February is the perfect month for planting herb seeds such as basil, sage and rosemary. From this point on, you can watch your seedlings grow – the kids will love it. Children like to be given responsibility and will water their plants diligently.
As soon as the herbs have reached a good height, you can pick them and serve them fresh with a delicious plate of pasta. If you get a little over excited when planting your herb garden and end up with an excess of herbs, then fear not.
